Our Team

The people behind Nexus-CA bring together decades of experience in construction, international manufacturing, Indigenous relations, and world-class design.

Stéphane Thomassin

Founding Partner & Chairman

With over 20 years as a general contractor, Stéphane Thomassin is the strategic foundation of Nexus-CA. His career has been defined by large-scale project leadership in the James Bay region — work that demanded mastery of extreme logistics, harsh climates, and a deep sensitivity to the communities involved. That Northern experience gave Stéphane a firsthand understanding of the critical housing gaps facing remote communities and the mining sector. For him, building in these regions requires more than technical skill — it demands the ability to navigate complexity while staying grounded in local human realities. His vision extends well beyond any single region. Stéphane believes every territory deserves tailored solutions — housing systems that balance ecological performance with economic viability, regardless of the environment. Nexus-CA grew directly from that philosophy. The team came together organically, united by complementary expertise and shared values — a synergy that now drives the company's ability to deliver innovative, sustainable, and accessible housing solutions anywhere in the world. "Let's build solutions together that respect your needs, your budget, and our environment."

Travis Nicols

Managing Partner

Travis is an entrepreneur and operator with experience spanning capital markets, international manufacturing, and early-stage venture development. He began his career in investment banking, structuring vehicles that gave private investors access to high-growth technology companies before they went public, then moved into an early-stage startup where he played a strategic role scaling the business into a buyout candidate — ultimately acquired by a publicly traded firm. Over the past two decades he has worked extensively across global manufacturing and supply chains, including large-scale production partnerships in China, spanning product development, contract manufacturing, logistics, and complex regulatory environments across North America and Asia. He has also advised several large multi-state cannabis operators during the industry’s early expansion, helping companies design manufacturing infrastructure and build efficient production systems. These experiences shaped a clear focus: building scalable physical products and infrastructure businesses — a philosophy that drives his work in capsule housing, combining modern design, global manufacturing expertise, and practical deployment models to deliver high-quality, accessible living solutions.

Jae Liao

Managing Partner

Mr. Liao is a California-based entrepreneur and international business executive whose career spans telecommunications, global manufacturing, and community-driven development. After building his operational foundation at T-Mobile, Jae became a key figure at Smiss Technology — one of the world's leading electronic hardware manufacturers in Shenzhen, China — where he oversaw product development partnerships and cross-border supply chains spanning more than fifty countries. Beyond manufacturing, Jae has worked closely with Native and Indigenous communities on economic development initiatives, deepening his commitment to projects where business performance and social impact go hand in hand. At Nexus-CA, he leads international manufacturing coordination and supply chain strategy, leveraging his deep Asia-Pacific network to ensure every capsule unit meets the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and scalability.

Damas Arsenault

Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations

Drawing on a career spanning over four decades, Damas Arsenault is a recognized expert in operational management within northern environments and a true bridge-builder between cultures. His professional journey is marked by deep immersion within Indigenous communities in Quebec and Nunavut, where he worked for nearly twenty years as a manager and Director of Operations—notably for various Cree enterprises throughout the James Bay territory, as well as with the Atikamekw and Innu communities located further south in Quebec.

A specialist in large-scale projects in remote territories, Damas possesses an exceptional command of the logistical challenges associated with land clearing, mining infrastructure, and the forestry sector. Beyond his technical expertise in planning and site management, he has dedicated a significant portion of his professional life to fostering connections between governing bodies and local communities. This intimate understanding of the territorial and human realities makes him a pivotal figure in ensuring the harmony and success of projects in the North.

His commitment to the land extends beyond his professional life: from 1983 to 1986, Damas walked across Canada—an 11,500-kilometer feat that stands as a testament to his extraordinary resilience and determination. At Nexus-Ca, he channels this vast human and technical experience into the development of sustainable housing solutions, ensuring that every initiative is firmly grounded in respect for—and collaboration with—the host communities.

Manufacturing & Operations

Nexus-CA operates a vertically integrated manufacturing model that combines North American project management with international production capacity. Our modular units are precision-engineered and factory-assembled under strict quality controls before being shipped to deployment sites across Canada's North. This approach ensures consistent build quality, reduces on-site construction timelines, and minimizes environmental impact in sensitive Arctic ecosystems.

Strategic Partnerships

Nexus-CA's work is made possible through a network of strategic partnerships that span design, engineering, community engagement, and international logistics. Our collaboration with Rebel Design brings award-winning interior architecture to every unit. Our Indigenous relations advisory ensures that community-led partnerships remain at the center of every northern deployment. And our Asia-Pacific operations team coordinates precision manufacturing and quality assurance across our international supply chain.
